This is the basic shopping list for the first time cat owners. You should have the following items ready for raising a kitty:

cat food (wet & dry)

It’s important to choose good quality of food for your feline companion. What they eat smells like what they pooped. Timely’s feces never smelled horrible except when he has diarrhea. The food I give him is all natural (without any by-products). Some pet stores have a all natural cat food section and it’s easy for consumers to identify if the food they bought is all natural or not.

litter & litter box

litter scoop

feeding bowl & water bowl

It’s better to use separate bowls for food and water. Because 2 in 1 feeding bowls tend to get messy after a meal and the water bowl section may get contaminated with spilled food. Besides it’s easier for owner to refill fresh water if the water bowl is independent.

scratch pole/board

toys

grooming brush

toothbrush and toothpaste

carrier

collar & ID tag

break away collars are safer for your cat in case his/her collar gets caught on other objects he/she will be able to get loose by tugging away from the object.

Here are 5 easy tips for using a flea comb

a good flea comb1. Choosing a good flea comb also helps you catch fleas easier. The best flea comb is like the one in the picture. That flea comb has stainless steel bristles and it has a long handle.

2. Before you start brushing your pet, make sure to have a cup of soapy water by your side. Soapy water can wash the oily coating off the fleas and it can also drown them. Once you catch a flea you can just dip the comb in soapy water without getting your hands wet.

3. Only brush your cat/dog when its coat is dry.

4. Start from your pet’s face then brush toward its tail. Brush its body thoroughly. Face, neck, belly and the rear parts  are the spots that should be brushed more often.

5. Make sure to vacuum your living space at least once a week. You can also incorporate other anti-flea products with combing to eradicate residual flea eggs and larva.
